Pioneer TS‑A683FH

The Pioneer TS‑A683FH is a 6″ × 8″ (≈150 × 203 mm) 2‑way coaxial speaker pair from Pioneer’s A‑Series MAX line, designed for vehicles that use 6×8 speaker locations and for users seeking a strong performance upgrade. It supports a nominal power (RMS) of 85 W and a peak power rating of 370 W.  The woofer uses an aramid‑fiber & mica‑reinforced IMPP™ (Injection Moulded Polypropylene) cone and features a Progressive Flex Suspension System (P.F.S.S.) for improved excursion and control.  It also includes a 20 mm polyetherimide (PEI) hard‑dome tweeter for clear high‑frequency detail. The frequency response spans approximately 34 Hz to 49 kHz, with a sensitivity of 90 dB (1 W/1 m) and an impedance of 4 Ω.

About The Product

The Pioneer TS-A683FH 6″ x 8″ 2-way speakers can handle up to 370 W Max (85 W Nominal). The woofer cone is made of Aramid Fiber reinforced Injection Molded Polypropylene (IMPP) for rigidity, low-frequency responsiveness, and weather resistance. The 20mm PEI dome tweeter adds in the high-frequency details to provide music enjoyment.

A Series

The highly efficient design of the Pioneer A Series speakers intentionally matches the subwoofer and full-range loudspeakers to provide seamless and smooth sound characteristics, with dynamic, high-impact bass that lets you hear and feel the music. Pioneer’s OPEN & SMOOTH sound concept ensures a seamless transition between the midrange and tweeter drivers, delivering a uniform off-axis frequency response optimized for automotive applications, where one or more speakers are often aimed away from the listeners’ ears. The A Series lineup enhances audio details and improves acoustic performance.

The Perfect Match

All A-MAX Series speakers feature the same tweeter with no alterations whatsoever. From the largest component speaker set to the smallest 2-way coaxial speaker, you will get the same tweeter to ensure perfect tonal balance throughout the car, regardless of the size of speakers required for the front and rear.

Loud & Clear

These speakers are as efficient, if not more efficient, than the stock speakers found in typical cars on the market. They allow you to enjoy a coherent sound without missing any details and without exaggerated response, providing improved precision and more details across the entire audio bandwidth. Their high efficiency also enables you to enjoy exceptional sound from low power sources, and their ability to handle high power allows you to connect them to an external amplifier, letting them shine even more!

Open & Smooth

Pioneer’s OPEN & SMOOTH sound concept ensures a seamless and smooth transition between the midrange and tweeter drivers, delivering a uniform off-axis frequency response. This design is optimized for automotive applications where one or more speakers are often aimed away from the listeners’ ears.

Aramid Fiber reinforced IMPP™ cone

An extremely rigid yet lightweight cone is essential to avoid cone failure and distortion under high power. Pioneer’s IMPP™ composite cones meet this need perfectly. CAE (Computer-Aided Engineering) was applied to create a curvilinear cone of varying thicknesses during the injection process, maintaining a balance between lightness (responsiveness) and rigidity (precise audio and tight bass). To further improve this rigidity-to-weight ratio, Pioneer uses an advanced process that integrates different materials, such as Aramid fiber, which resonate at different frequencies, creating a perfectly balanced cone across the entire bandwidth.

Pioneer exclusive P.F.S.S. spider

The Progressive Flex Suspension System (P.F.S.S.) effectively supports the voice coil by damping cone vibrations and improving the linearity of sound reproduction. Its soft part ensures smooth movement and clear sound even under high power, while its firmer part controls excessive vibrations and prevents unwanted movements that cause distortion. The goal is simple: to provide all the details of your music while maintaining control during the large excursions generated by the bass.

Polyetherimide (PEI) hard dome tweeter

Polyetherimide can withstand high temperatures while maintaining stable electrical and mechanical properties over a wide frequency range. Its strength-to-weight ratio makes it ideal for high-frequency vibrations of the dome and thermal management of the voice coil. We also carefully designed this hard dome tweeter with a front diffuser to help maintain the perfect audio balance during the transition from on-axis to off-axis listening. This allows for a more balanced sound source between the different audio points in the car.

Keep it simple and clean

Avoid messy installations and keep your speaker wiring as clean as possible. These speakers use an in-line crossover design and/or an integrated crossover already installed on the speaker basket. This eliminates the need for a bulky external box typically found with passive crossovers, saving you from having to find extra space for it. Additionally, it removes the need for extra wires going in and out of your door to accommodate a woofer in the door with a matching tweeter on your dash.

CarSoundfit App

Pioneer’s Car Sound Fit app is a car sound simulator that lets you experience what your car could sound like using your own smartphone. You’ll be able to hear the difference between stock speakers and Pioneer’s various audio options, and see how the quality of Pioneer speakers can enhance your in-car experience. For a virtual listening demo of these and many other Pioneer car speakers, download the free Pioneer CarSoundFit app.

Questions and Answers

Q1: What is the nominal (RMS) power rating of the TS‑A683FH?
A1: The TS‑A683FH is rated at 85 W RMS.
Q2: What is its maximum (peak) power handling?
A2: Up to 370 W peak.
Q3: What size are these speakers and what’s the impedance?
A3: They are 6″×8″ coaxial speakers with an impedance of 4 Ω.
Q4: What materials and design features are used to improve audio quality?
A4: The woofer cone uses aramid‑fiber & mica‑reinforced IMPP™ for rigidity and better bass response, and the speaker features Pioneer’s P.F.S.S. suspension system for better control under load. The tweeter is a 20 mm PEI hard dome for improved clarity.
Q5: Will these fit many vehicles and do they work without an amplifier?

A5: Yes — given the 4 Ω impedance and high sensitivity (90 dB), they can work well with many factory head units. The shallow mounting depth (~63 mm) helps install in many vehicles. However, to fully exploit their higher power capacity and clarity, a quality amplifier is beneficial.
