Pioneer TS‑A879

The Pioneer TS‑A879 is a 3.5‑inch (≈87 mm) 2‑way coaxial speaker pair from the A‑Series, designed as a compact upgrade where space is limited. It supports up to 450 W peak power and approximately 100 W RMS (continuous) when used with the included inline crossover.  It features a carbon‑and‑mica‑reinforced IMPP™ (injection‑moulded polypropylene) cone for the woofer and a 25 mm (≈1‑inch) PEI hard‑dome tweeter for crisp high‑frequency response.  It has a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, sensitivity around 85 dB, and a frequency response from approximately 52 Hz to 33 kHz (‑20 dB) with the included high‑pass crossover network.

Questions and Answers

Q1: What is the RMS (continuous) power rating of the TS‑A879?
A1: It is rated at approximately 100 W RMS when used with the included inline crossover.
Q2: What is the peak power handling of these speakers?
A2: They support up to 450 W peak power when used with the inline crossover.
Q3: What size are the TS‑A879 speakers and why is that important?
A3: They are 3.5″ (≈87 mm) speakers — ideal for vehicles or mounting locations where standard larger speakers won’t fit easily.
Q4: What materials are used in this speaker and what do they benefit?
A4: The woofer uses an IMPP™ cone reinforced with carbon & mica for improved rigidity and reduced distortion. The tweeter uses a PEI hard‑dome, which helps deliver clear highs and better durability.
Q5: Do these speakers come with a built‑in filter or crossover?
A5: Yes — each speaker pair includes an inline high‑pass crossover (cutoff around 850 Hz) to protect the driver from low frequencies and optimise performance.
