Description

Rockford Fosgate Prime R2-500X4

The R2‑500X4 is a 4‑channel full‑range amplifier from the Prime Series. Designed for both performance and versatility, it delivers a total of 500 watts RMS and features a Class‑D topology, which keeps it efficient so it doesn’t overburden your vehicle’s electrical system. It supports operation at 4 Ω or 2 Ω in stereo, or bridged/mono at 4 Ω. With crossover flexibility, high/low level inputs, C.L.E.A.N. gain setup, and robust protections, it’s built to power both speakers and subs in aftermarket or factory-upgraded systems.

Questions and Answers

Q1: Can this amp be bridged for subwoofer use?
Yes — you can bridge two of the channels (usually front or rear pair) to get about 250W RMS into a 4 Ω load.
Q2: What’s the C.L.E.A.N. setup system?
It’s Rockford’s calibrated gain‑setting system. You increase gain until the clip/LED shows red, then back off a little until it’s just clean — this ensures max output without distortion.
Q3: Does it accept factory stereo speaker outputs?
Yes — this amp supports high‑level (speaker level) inputs and auto sense features, which is helpful if your head unit doesn’t have RCA outputs.
Q4: What power wire & fuse should be used for safe operation?
Use 4 AWG power & ground wire, and install an 80 A fuse as recommended.
Q5: Is it efficient / does it run cool?
Yes — it’s Class‑D, has a cast aluminum heatsink, includes protections (short‑circuit, over‑current, rollback) and is made to handle voltage changes with lower heat compared to Class‑AB amps.
