Pioneer P.R.O. Series

The Pioneer P.R.O. (Pioneer Reference for Open Show) series is designed for enthusiasts seeking serious sound pressure levels. Inspired by Pioneer’s history of record-breaking SPL competitions, this lineup features bullet tweeters, mid-bass drivers, and subwoofers that can be mixed and matched for impressive output without a large investment.

What is Pioneer P.R.O.

In the early 2000s, SPL competitions such as “dB drag racing” became popular in the U.S., with winners reaching around 150 dB by 2003. Pioneer broke the world record in 2004 with 173.0 dB and again in 2005 with 180.5 dB. Under the sponsorship of the IASCA (International Auto Sound Challenge Association), the “OPEN SHOW” SPL competition emerged. The acronym P.R.O. (Pioneer Reference for Open Show) comes from this competition. These speakers are suitable for competitive use or casual outdoor enjoyment, such as tailgating or parties.

Large and Heavy

Designed for open show car audio systems, these speakers deliver phenomenal maximum power and high efficiency, producing impressive SPL while allowing hours of musical enjoyment. The heavy magnet, large aluminum voice coil, and robust basket structure provide excellent power handling and heat dissipation.

Titanium and Aluminum

The horn-loaded tweeter features a titanium diaphragm paired with a high-quality die-cast aluminum basket and center bullet. This combination maintains accuracy under high power and improves heat dissipation, ensuring consistent performance during extended use.

Q2: What is the maximum (peak) power it can handle?
A2: It can handle up to 600 W maximum (peak) power.
Q3: What size and type of driver is this tweeter?
A3: It’s a 4″ (≈103 mm) bullet tweeter with a titanium diaphragm and horn‑style wave guide design.
Q4: What is the frequency response and sensitivity?
A4: The frequency response is approximately 2,500 Hz to 22,000 Hz, and the sensitivity is rated at 106 dB (1W/1m).
Q5: Will this tweeter require a special installation or is it compatible with normal car audio systems?

A5: It is designed for high‑output installations (SPL) and requires sufficient power and mounting depth (~68 mm) to perform optimally. Because of its high sensitivity and power handling, it’s best used in systems designed for high output rather than modest stock head‑unit replacements.
