Description

Pioneer TS‑M651PRO

The Pioneer TS‑M651PRO is a 6.5‑inch (≈16.5 cm) mid‑bass driver from Pioneer’s PRO Series, designed for high‑output, high‑sensitivity installations (such as mid‑bass pods or component upgrades). It handles up to 120 W RMS nominal power and 500 W maximum (peak) power, with an impedance of 4 ohms and a sensitivity rated at 94 dB (1 W/1 m).  The frequency response spans approximately 50 Hz to 18 kHz, making it capable of solid mid‑bass output while still reproducing higher frequencies when paired with tweeters.  The driver features a lightweight yet rigid pulp cone construction for improved excursion and clarity, plus oversized magnet and high‑strength basket for durability under load.

About The Product

The Pioneer P.R.O. (Pioneer Reference for Open Show) series of speakers is designed specifically for those looking to produce serious sound pressure levels. Inspired by Pioneer’s history of record-breaking SPL competition, the new P.R.O. Series line of speakers is constructed with the street enthusiast in mind. Emphasizing efficiency and power handling, the P.R.O. series lineup consists of bullet tweeters, mid-bass drivers, and a subwoofer that can be mixed and matched to deliver impressive output without requiring a significant investment.

What is Pioneer P.R.O.

In the early 2000s, an SPL competition called “dB drag racing” became popular in the U.S. By 2003, there were approximately 10,000 competitors, with winners achieving around 150dB. Pioneer broke the world record in 2004 by reaching 173.0dB and renewed this title the following year with an impressive 180.5dB!

Around 2005, under the sponsorship of the IASCA (International Auto Sound Challenge Association), an emerging SPL competition called “OPEN SHOW” was introduced with great success. The acronym for Pioneer P.R.O. (Pioneer Reference for Open Show) for our dedicated products comes from this designation.

Now, it’s a trend that can also be enjoyed casually outdoors, whether partying or tailgating at your favorite sports event.

Large and Heavy

Specifically crafted for open show car audio systems, these speakers exemplify phenomenal maximum power and incredible efficiency, allowing not only high sound pressure (SPL) but also hours of musical enjoyment. The basket and the imposing motor structure of this speaker, which uses a heavy magnet, offer all the required power handling and heat dissipation to move the main cone and its large aluminum voice coil.

Paper Beats Rock

The optimally blended pulp cone woofer guarantees precise and vibrant sound, while the motor construction, voice coil, and powerful magnet, drawing inspiration from Pioneer’s history in SPL competitions, promise high efficiency and excellent thermal management, even at high volumes.

Aluminum Ring and Bullet

A large bullet-shaped waveguide, made of die-cast aluminum, not only provides better thermal management for high-power handling but also allows for greater acoustic propagation and dispersion. To maintain sound quality even at high power and excursion, this speaker incorporates an aluminum reinforcement ring at the junction of the cone and the voice coil support. This reinforcement stiffens the critical junction and reduces the distortion typically generated under high excursions.

Questions and Answers

Q1: What is the continuous (RMS) power rating of the TS‑M651PRO?
A1: It is rated at approximately 120 W RMS.
Q2: What is the maximum (peak) power handling?
A2: The driver supports up to 500 W peak power.
Q3: What is the sensitivity and impedance of this driver?
A3: The sensitivity is about 94 dB (1 W/1 m) and the impedance is 4 ohms.
Q4: What is the frequency response of the TS‑M651PRO?
A4: The frequency response spans approximately 50 Hz to 18 kHz.
Q5: What kind of driver is this and for what use case is it intended?

A5: This is a mid‑bass driver (not a full‑range coaxial speaker). It’s intended for component audio setups or systems where you want strong bass/mid output and pair it with compatible tweeters or full systems. It’s especially suited for high‑output upgrades rather than basic factory replacements.
